Our Vision
Born from a partnership between GoldenGate Development Corporation and STAR Academy Charter School, Urban Roots creates food equity, entrepreneurial skills, and hands-on education in Memphis's 38128 zip code.
Our Impact
We're creating the largest urban farm in West Tennessee, where students don't just learn about sustainability—they live it every day through cultivation, animal husbandry, and direct market experience.

Our campus features everything from goat pastures to aquaponics systems, creating a complete agricultural ecosystem where STAR Academy students gain hands-on experience every day. Each element of our farm has been designed with both education and sustainability in mind.
Learning That Grows With You
Daily Agriculture Classes
Pre-K through 8th grade students participate in curriculum-aligned farming education with our full-time agriculture teacher.
Weekly Market Days
Students harvest, price, and sell their produce directly to the community, learning entrepreneurship and business skills firsthand.
Summer Camps
Intensive programs where local youth can deepen their agricultural knowledge while having fun during school breaks.
Community Workshops
Open learning opportunities where families can discover urban farming techniques to implement at home.

Your support directly impacts our capacity to grow: $25 provides 5 bags of soil, $100 feeds our animals for a week, and $500 sponsors a class garden bed for an entire year.
